Olympic Park construction gets early start

Construction officially started on the London 2012 Olympic Park today as the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) began work on the Olympic Stadium - three months earlier than originally planned. The work to create the permanent foundations for the Stadium was witnessed by Prime Minister Gordon Brown who had an opportunity to meet workers on site. In the next few years over a thousand workers will help build the venue. The Stadium will be the centre-piece for the London 2012 Games with over 4bn people...

Mayor appoints LOCOG board representative

Mayor of London Boris Johnson has today appointed David Ross, Non-Executive Deputy Chairman of Carphone Warehouse as his nominee to represent him on the board of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games. The Mayor has also asked David to look at all aspects of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to ensure that they create a truly lasting legacy for all Londoners and that London is not saddled with an unreasonable bill for generations to come. London 2012 has issued a statement on the London Mayoral elections, held on Thursday 1 May

Seb Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, said: 'I congratulate Boris Johnson on his election as Mayor of London.
