The Last Night magic, live in the open air!

Each of the four BBC Proms in the Park events, sponsored by National Savings and Investments, is centred around a live concert with high-profile artists and presenters, culminating in a live Big Screen link-up to the Royal Albert Hall. So gather together your friends, pack a picnic and get ready for a fabulous night out!

Belfast - Glasgow - London - Swansea

If there isn't a Proms in the Park event near to you, you can join the party at one of the BBC Big Screens around the country: Birmingham (Chamberlain Square), Bradford (Centenary Square), Derby (Market Place), Hull (Queen Victoria Square), Leeds (Millennium Square), Liverpool (Clayton Square), Manchester (Exchange Square), Rotherham (All Saints Square), Swindon (Wharf Green) and other new screens currently being commissioned across the UK.

Note that all BBC Proms in the Park events take place outdoors and tickets are unreserved. The use of chairs is discouraged since it obstructs the view of others, but if you find it necessary because of limited mobility, please be considerate to your neighbours. In the interests of safety, please do not bring glass items, barbeques or flaming torches.

-->

Creamfields - 10th Anniversary

The festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary at its new home in the heart of Cheshire, where, for the first time ever, there will be camping!

Sandown Park Racecourse is delighted to two music nights this summer, featuring two top international acts, the first time such high profile bands will have performed at the racecourse in one year. Girls Aloud will be playing their debut at the racecourse live after racing on Thursday 17 July and Madness on Thursday 7 August 2008.

The UB40 music night in 2007 was a phenomenal success attracting over 14,000 racegoers to the racecourse and making the evening one of the most popular events in the Sandown Park racing calendar.

Girls Aloud, the UK’s premier girl band, is one of the most successful British pop groups of the decade, with a record-breaking seventeen consecutive Top 10 singles, three number 1’s, four platinum albums and record sales in excess of 4.2 million in the UK alone. After five years, 3 albums and a Greatest Hits, Sarah, Nadine, Kimberley, Cheryl and Nicola have even entered the Guinness Book of Records for their phenomenal sales. Having beaten records set by both Destiny’s Child and Spice Girls, this proves Girls Aloud will go down as one of the UK’s most successful bands ever.

The girls have performed at many different venues across the UK and will embark on their ‘Tangled Up Tour’ where they will play at Sandown Park singing a selection of their greatest songs from the distinct 1980s sound of ‘No Good Advice’ and ‘Jump’ through to the 1960s sound of ‘Love Machine’ to the more futuristic sound of ‘Biology’ and ‘Call the Shots’.

Madness, Britain’s most successful chart band in music history, having had twenty-one top-twenty singles in a seven year period from ’78-’86, and many more since (over 30 in total), which include ‘It Must Be Love’, ‘Embarrassment’, ‘Baggy Trousers’, ‘My Girl’ and ‘One Step Beyond’. This was a great achievement and set the tone for almost three decades of complete Madness. The band’s sound developed from their early ska routes, showing their love of Motown/Stax rhythms and three minute melodies almost ignored in Britain since the late 60’s.

Today, you can hear them everywhere: in the hurdy-gurdy exuberance of The Kaiser Chiefs, in the staccato rhythms of Franz Ferdinand, in the ska-tones of The Ordinary Boys and even in the clever knowing pop of Robbie Williams – Madness are all around us and now they’re back, bringing Madness to the masses again with last years sets at Glastonbury, Bestival and the London O2 adding to the legend!

Both bands will perform a one hour live performance immediately after the last race.

David Mackinnon, Managing Director for Sandown Park Racecourse commented: “We are delighted to welcome Girls Aloud and Madness for their first visit to Sandown Park, two of the most popular bands in the UK. Our music evenings have proved hugely popular amongst our racegoers over the last few years and to avoid disappointment, I strongly advise you to book early as we are anticipating sell out crowds. I look forward to two nights of great entertainment as part of the summer season at Sandown Park Racecourse.”

Love Music Hate Racism, Southend on Sea, August 2nd

It is founded on creative participation of all kinds, whether that's performing Shakespeare round the fire circles, staging a custard pie battle on the lake or building the sculpture of your dreams. It is an Arts event, with ticket monies spread evenly between musicians, actors, installation artists, healers and public performers. Most importantly it is a party where everyone has the chance to get under the spotlight, from the headline Main Stage act to the hula hoping eccentric in the setting sun. The Head Gardeners would not have it any other way.

Happening once again in its stunning location in the East Anglian countryside the event will have an array of the best up and coming artists performing alongside some bona fide legends including Grace Jones (UK festival exclusive), Sons & Daughters, Glasvegas, Envy & Other Sins, Alphabeat, ‘Special Secret Guests', Morcheeba, Bonde Do Role, Florence & The Machine, Infadels, Shout Out Louds, The Little Ones, Cage The Elephant, Officer Kicks, Married To The Sea, Elle S'appelle, Atomic Hooligan, Hi 5 Alive, Eight Legs, Beep Seals, Alexander Wolfe, Cass Lowe, Thomas Tantrum, Lacrosse, Asteroids Galaxy Tour, Kristoffer Ragnstam, The Wallbirds, FrYars, Fanfarlo, Sunny Day Sets Fire, Jay Jay Pistolet, Losers, Autokratz, Alex Metric, Juxta, Precious RGB, The Whip, Lowline, Micachu, Absentee, The Shoes, Eddy Temple Morris, Eclectic Method, Dennis Jones, 2Many Wedding.

Plus, many celebrated on-site shenanigans for which The Secret Garden Party has become so affectionately synonymous. The festival has become notorious for championing the hit-makers of tomorrow with past performers including KT Tunstall (2004), Noisettes (2005), Hard Fi (2005), The Rumble Strips (2006), Lily Allen (2006), Newton Faulkner (2007), Reverend And The Makers (2007) and Metronomy (2007)… with this years line up looking to top them all.

The Revolution is coming…

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

When you order your tickets you will need to give us a password that will be associated with your order. When you receive your tickets in the post you will need to activate them by following the simple instructions we supply to you along with the password.

The reason for this is so that your tickets don't have to be sent via recorded / special delivery.
3rd – 6th July Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire

For a great day out this July, visit the Royal Show at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire. The show starts on Thursday 3rd July, and runs until Sunday 6th July and event organisers, the Royal Agricultural Society of England (RASE), are promising that the Royal Show 2008 has something for everyone. From an action packed programme in the Grand Ring, to craft demonstrations and countryside pursuits, to show jumping and shopping - your main problem will be fitting it all in!

Show Director, Simon Frere-Cook said: “As England’s premier agricultural event, the Royal Show is totally committed to promoting the best of British farming. It is a great opportunity to find out more about where your food comes from. See the award-winning cattle, enjoy fabulous food at the farmers market, or linger over a great range of regional produce from around the country in the food hall.”

There are several new attractions for 2008 including the Energy and Sustainability Park. With alternative energy being one of the hot topics for the summer, this is a great opportunity to really find out how this new energy source can benefit us all in the not too distant future.

If your interest involves a different kind of green, then a visit to the newly extended horticultural area is a must! Here you will find everything for the green-fingered. This year features the ever-popular Flower Show competition, as well as flower arranging demonstrations to help add a finishing touch to your home.
2-20 June 2008

Spitalfields: rich in history, buzzing with contemporary culture and host to London’s most creative music Festival.

Spitalfields Festival should be praised to the rooftops. So much of its planning and feel is intelligent, and it embraces community in its widest sense. And then there are the wonderful buildings in that part of the city, not least Christ Church, in all its renovated splendour.

The Independent June 2006

Founded in 1976 with an Education & Community Programme established in 1989, Spitalfields Festival has flourished and now encompasses a three-week Festival in June, a ten-day Festival in December and a year-round programme of education and community work.

The Festival is well-known for programming an eclectic mix of concerts and events, designed to reflect the area and communities in which we are based. The Festival prides itself on the quality of its programming, with concerts covering a broad range of western classical music, from early music through to the newest of new music.

This year, Spitalfields Festival will bring alive a host of East London venues with classical music, cutting-edge contemporary sounds, jazz and Chinese music, alongside 'Voice' - a weekend of singing. Whether you experience a concert in the evocative atmosphere of Wilton's Music Hall, the splendour of Christ Church or the more intimate surroundings of Shoreditch Church; whether you stumble across an event in Spitalfields Market or whether you join in a workshop you are sure to find something to move, entertain or inspire you.

In the heart of East London, Spitalfields is an area of constant change, with a wealth of history and diversity, and surprises around every corner; where 18th century architecture meets 21st century living; where east meets west. Spitalfields Festival is one of a kind: more than a music festival, more than a community programme.

Listen. Be inspired.

Every year over the month of June there are over 200 events in 80 towns and villages featuring top quality arts and entertainment alongside many events inspired and associated with the history, lifestyle and outstanding natural beauty of the area. Encompassing stunning coastlines, North Devon's Biosphere Reserve, the wild magnificence of Exmoor and the Culm Grassland of Ruby Country, you really are spoilt for choice!

Now with no England football team to cheer along in June’s European Championship 2008, this is the perfect excuse to get away from it all and enjoy all that North Devon has to offer.

Holidaying in North Devon has never been better - escape the rat race, slow down a pace and soak up some spectacular scenery and culture.

North Devon - easy to get to, difficult to leave.

By car

From the east, North Devon is best reached along the A361 then the A39. This route is reached from Junction 27 on the M5. If you are travelling from the west or south the best access is via the A39 up through Bude or the A386 from Okehampton. Barnstaple offers a Park & Ride scheme - the car park is sign-posted off the A39.

By train

North Devon is served by the Tarka Line from Exeter St David's to Barnstaple. One of the country’s prettiest scheduled train routes, it provides a beautiful entry to North Devon

Folk Festival 2008

North Devon Folk Festival

3 day weekend event 5th to the 7th September 2008

This year's North Devon Folk Festival promises to be even bigger, better and brighter.

Acts include:
Melanie Safka
Usually known professionally simply as Melanie, she is best known for her hits, "Brand New Key", "Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)" and "What Have They Done To My Song, Ma?". Melanie has sold over 25 million records over the course of her career.

Bellowhead
Eleven piece folk-big-band Bellowhead have exploded onto the festival scene and fast become one of the most talked about bands on the contemporary folk circuit. Formed in 2004 by the duo Spiers & Boden to headline the first Oxford Folk Festival, Bellowhead have played some of the top festivals in the UK and Europe including Cambridge Folk Festival, The Big Chill, Summer Sundae and Roskilde Festival. In 2005, 2007 and again in 2008 they received the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for Best Live Act.

Eddi Reader
Scotland-born Eddi Reader was an '80s pop star in the UK, where her band Fairground Attraction had a number 1 hit with the supercatchy "Perfect." Now, as a solo artist, her sound has matured; quiet acoustic arrangements and gentle harmonies put her lush voice front and center.
Albums such as Candyfloss and Medicine and Angels & Electricity established her as a thoughtful songwriter and interpreter, with an affinity for wistful songs of longing and loss -- and a nice sideline in what used to be called "message" songs, which call to the listener to think about war and peace, the Earth and our place in it.
Reader has also become a noted interpreter of the poems of Robert Burns.

Transglobal Underground
(sometimes written as Trans-Global Underground or simply as TGU) is a London-based music collective who specialise in a fusion of western, oriental and African music styles (sometimes labelled as "world fusion" or "ethno-techno"). Their early albums featured Natacha Atlas as lead singer and their single "Temple Head" was used in a Coca-Cola advertising campaign for the 1996 Olympic Games.

Line-up includes:
Friday evening is a free event organised by Tom and Barbara Brown featuring Ian Hudson, Martyn Babb plus a special guest, to be announced..
The evening will finish at 23:00.

Saturday - Auditorium
1:00 - Chris Millington
1:45 - Annabelle Chovstek
2:35 - Martha Tilson
3:30 - Devon Sproule Band
4:30 - Break until
7:00 - Balla Hardy Trio
7:30 - John Tams and Barry Coope
8:30 - Melanie
To finish at approximately 10:00

Saturday - Marquee
1:00 - tbc
1:45 - Steve Tilston
2:35 - Bella Hardy Trio
3:30 - Tarras
4:30 - Break until
7:00 - Debby McClatchy
7:30 - Devon Sproule Band
8:30 - Trans Global Underground
To finish at approximately 10:00

Saturday - Pavilion
5:00 - Meet Steve & Martha Tilston
6:00 - Encore
6:30 - Break until
10:15 - Debby McClatchy
10:45 - The Dambuskers
To finish at approximately 11:30

Plus Singing Sous Chefs on a walkabout throughout the day

Sunday - Auditorium
1:00 - Singing Sous Chefs
1:45 - tbc
3:30 - Tarras
4:30 - Break until
7:00 - Chris Millington
7:30 - Last Night's Fun
8:30 - Eddi Reader
To finish at approximately 10:00

Sunday - Marquee
1:00 - Fiddlebix
1:45 - Dragon Fly (still tbc)
2:35 - Debby McClatchy
3:30 - Last Night's Fun
4:30 - Break until
7:00 - Jenna Witts
7:30 - Annabelle Chovstek
8:30 - Bellowhead
To finish at approximately 10:00

Sunday - Pavilion
5:00 - Meet the Dambuskers

The Edinburgh International Festival presents a rich programme of classical music, theatre, opera and dance in six major theatres and concert halls and a number of smaller venues, over a three-week period in late summer each year. Festival 08 will run from the 8th to the 31st of August.

In addition to mounting the annual three week programme of events, the Festival has a year-round programme of education and outreach work, aimed at all ages from primary school pupils to adults.

The Festival began in 1947, with the aim of providing 'a platform for the flowering of the human spirit'. Right from the start it inspired people to put on shows of their own outwith the official Festival, and soon these grew into the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Since then half a dozen or so more festivals have grown up around it in August and early September, and collectively these are often known as 'the Edinburgh Festival'.

All artists and companies in the Festival appear at the invitation of the Festival Director. The Festival's budget covers all of the costs associated with delivering the programme including artists' fees and travel, venue hire and promotion of the event. The Festival, a not-for-profit organisation, is solely responsible for raising income from ticket sales, fundraising and sponsorship, which along with public sector grants, cover these costs. Edinburgh International Festival Society is a registered charity, no: SC004694.

The key venues used are the Usher Hall (capacity 2,300), the Festival Theatre (1,800), The Edinburgh Playhouse (2,900), the King's Theatre (1,300), the Royal Lyceum Theatre (650), The Queen's Hall (920) and The Hub (420).

Festival 08 has seen the Festival take its biggest box office in one day. The first day of public booking saw the Festival take more than quarter of a million pounds and contributed to the Festival reaching its first £1m in record time.

Though sales are going very well there are still opportunities to see most of the performances in this year's programme. However, if you are hoping to catch the following please try to book your tickets soon:
